Local museum Færgegården

'The Fjord Country through 10.000 years' is the title of an exhibition at Færgegården providing interesting facts about life around the fjords.

Færgegården, view from Kronpris Frederiks BridgeThe red Færgegård building, built in 1839, is right opposite you when you cross the bridge on your way to Hornsherred.

Færgegården is today a local history museum which takes you back through the ages from the 1900’s to the very first signs of human habitation around the fjords.

There are exhibits from the Stone Ages and from the Iron Age. See how the Vikings took food and equipment with them when they left this world. Viking graves have revealed that they took clothing, jewellery, tools and household articles with them to their graves.

The museum’s collection describes the lives of fishermen and farmers in the 1700’s and 1800’s and sketches Frederikssund’s development over the past two centuries.

The museum is surrounded by 27 acres of land which are perfect for a picnic lunch.
