The Fjord Country is the ideal starting point for a bicycle holiday. Regional bicycle route 40, aka Fjordstien (the Fjord Path) is a natural route of great beauty which follows the coasts of Roskilde Fjord and Isefjorden.
The
Fjord Path is 170 miles long all in all and encounters four ferries on its way. It passes through woods and hilly countryside, idyllic villages, and towns such as Frederikssund and Roskilde. It winds its way past churches, manor houses, water mills and other attractive sights.

The various parts of the Fjord Path can easily be done in small stages, e.g. as day trips. This can be just as rewarding as cycling all 170 miles in one stretch.
Besides the Fjord Path, cyclists will find other excellent cycle routes too; the Frederikssund area has a whole range of signposted cycle paths and many local roads are so quiet that they, too, are excellent for cycling.
At the Frederikssund Tourist Information Centre you’ll find folders about the different sections of the Fjord Path. They combine a description of the route with information about the things you’ll see along your way. The folders are also downloadable as
PDF-files.
