From the water

Roskilde Fjord and Isefjorden are the central focus of the Fjord Country.

The waters of the two fjords are vital to the Fjord Country and few places in Denmark can boast of so many water-related activities.

Arriving in Frederikssund in your own boat, you can choose between the yachting culture of big marinas or the peace and quiet of tiny, idyllic mooring places with very few people.

And don’t forget your fishing rod – there are many places in the Fjord Country where you can use it. Purchase a fishing permit at the Tourist Information Centre, or buy it online.

There are four ferry routes in the Fjord Country: Kulhuse-Sølager, Orø-Holbæk, Rørvig-Hundested and Østre Færge, which connects Orø and Hammer Bakke. If you follow the Fjord Path by bike or on foot, you’ll use all four ferries.

The steamboat SkjelskørA unique experience is a trip on the veteran steamboat Skjelskør. Every Sunday throughout the school holidays Skjelskør leaves Frederikssund harbour and sails south down Roskilde fjord. During the trip, visitors – both young and old – are welcome to visit the engine room and study the steam engine.

Skjelskør’s timetable is available at the steamboat’s website, where you can read more about the boat and its history (but only in Danish).
