On foot

The Fjord Country offers a variety of routes for walkers, both hardened hikers and leisurely ramblers.

The Fjord Country offers a variety of countryside for walking. Visit the extensive forests of Jægerspris with the oldest tree in Europe, the Royal Oak. Or visit the impressive bird sanctuary at the lake in Selsø. Follow the path over the fields at Venslev down to Isefjorden or visit Østskoven, a wood at the narrowest part of Roskilde Fjord. A wide variety of birds can be seen all year round, as many migratory routes pass over the Hornsherred area.

There are prehistoric burial mounds everywhere – proof, perhaps, that the Fjord Country has always been an attractive place to live.

The Fjord Path is a natural route following Roskilde Fjord and Isefjorden and in several places there is a parallel walking path following the coast.

You will find brochures about the Fjord Path at the Frederikssund Tourist Information Centre. The brochures can also be downloaded as PDF files. The Tourist Information Centre also has pamphlets about other walking routes e.g. in Nordskoven, Slotshegnet and Færgelunden in Jægerspris.
